Silk Scarf Care Guide

How to keep a Leeloo + Zohan silk scarf looking like it did the day it arrived.

Clean

  • Dry clean for long-term color preservation.
  • For a quick refresh, hand-wash in cool water with a mild detergent.
  • Never machine wash. Never tumble dry.

Dry

  • Lay flat on a clean towel, away from direct sunlight.
  • Do not wring, twist, or hang.

Press

  • Iron on the lowest silk setting with a pressing cloth between the iron and the silk.
  • Or steam from a few inches away.

Store

  • Roll, don’t fold—prevents permanent crease lines.
  • Keep away from direct light and heat.
  • A tissue-lined drawer or a dedicated scarf tube works well.

Every piece is made to last. Treated with basic care, a silk habotai scarf from our edition holds color and hand for decades.

Questions

Can I machine wash silk habotai?

No. Silk habotai is lightweight and the weave opens up in agitation. Machine washing will leave the piece wrinkled, possibly stretched, with pigment lift on printed areas. Dry clean for best results, or gentle hand wash if needed.

How do I get a wrinkle out?

Steam from a few inches away—don't press the steamer head against the silk. If using an iron, set it to the lowest silk setting, always use a pressing cloth between iron and silk, and iron from the back of the scarf. Never iron directly over printed pigment at full heat.

How long will a silk scarf last with proper care?

Decades. Silk habotai is one of the most durable natural fabrics when cared for correctly. The pigments we use are fade-resistant with normal light exposure. The thing that ages silk fastest is rough handling, not time—so roll rather than fold, store away from direct sunlight, and don't hang.

What if I get a stain?

Blot—don't rub—with a clean dry cloth as soon as possible. For wet stains (wine, coffee, water), blot and let air dry. Do not apply water or stain remover yourself; it can drive the pigment deeper into the fibers. Take it to a dry cleaner experienced with silk within a week.

Can I fold my scarf?

For storage, roll instead of fold—folding creates permanent crease lines over time. For travel, roll the scarf around a soft core (another scarf, a rolled t-shirt) and lay flat in luggage. Unfold and hang in steam (not direct water) from the shower for 10 minutes to release any travel creases.
