Silk Scarf Size Guide
A square of silk is a small thing. How big it is changes everything.
Our square scarves come in three sizes, each sized for a specific way of wearing—or a specific way of displaying. Pick by intent, not by instinct.
26″—Neck Tie
The everyday neck scarf. Ties cleanly at the collar, wraps once around the neck, works equally as a headband or a shorter head wrap.
36″—Full Neck Wrap
Enough fabric to drape, knot, or loop twice. This is the size most often photographed tied at the neck—and the one most collectors buy as their second piece.
50″—Shawl / Statement
A shawl over the shoulders. A head wrap worked around braids. A framed piece on the wall. Our largest square—the one that reads as fine art when mounted.
How to choose
- Gifting anyone: 26″ is the safest single size—works on almost everyone.
- Collecting: 50″. More surface for the artwork to breathe.
- Layering a wardrobe: 36″ for neck and shoulder drape.
- Displaying as art: 50″ framed reads as a print. 36″ works as a secondary wall piece.
How these compare to Hermès sizes
If you know silk squares, you know them in centimetres. Our 36″ is 91.5cm, which is the Hermès carré at 90cm to within a centimetre and a half. It folds the same, knots the same and wraps a head the same.
The 26″ is 66cm, a little under the carré 70. It is the neck knot, the hair tie and the bag handle, and it is too small to wrap a head properly.
The 50″ is 127cm, short of a 140cm châle but working the same way. Shoulders, a full headscarf with a tail left over, or framed on a wall.
- 26″ / 66cm. Just under a carré 70. Neck, hair, bag.
- 36″ / 91.5cm. The 90cm carré size. Neck wrap and head wrap.
- 50″ / 127cm. Approaching châle scale. Shawl and full headscarf.
Sizes only. We are not affiliated with Hermès, and the comparison is here because it is the measurement people already have in their heads.

Questions
Is 36″ the same as a 90cm Hermès carré?
In size, near enough. 36″ is 91.5cm against 90cm, a difference of a centimetre and a half. It folds the same, knots the same and wraps a head the same. If 90cm is the size you know, order the 36″. We are not affiliated with Hermès; this is a measurement comparison only.
Which size is best for a first scarf?
26″ is the safest single size if you're choosing one. It reads as a classic neck tie, works as a hair scarf, and the scale is right for most body types. If you want something more versatile, jump to 36″—it drapes fully around the neck, knots cleanly, and reads as a statement piece without overwhelming.
Can I frame a silk scarf as wall art?
Yes, and it's one of the most rewarding uses. The 50″ square frames as fine art when stretched over archival mat and glazed. 36″ works as a secondary wall piece. Any reputable framer can do this—ask for conservation glazing and silk-safe adhesive-free mounting.
How do the sizes compare to Hermès or Liberty London?
Our 36″ matches the Hermès classic carré (36″ / 90cm). Our 50″ is close to a Hermès GM (55″) or shawl format. Our 26″ (66cm) sits between the Hermès gavroche (45cm) and the classic carré—an in-between size that travels well.
Can I order a custom size?
Only for wholesale + corporate partners (museum gift shops, brand collaborations, stylist requests). For retail, we stay in the three standard sizes so that each edition of 100 stays honest to the format. Trade inquiries welcome.
What if I'm between sizes?
Pick the larger. Silk drapes—smaller sizes feel smaller than their measurement suggests once tied. 36″ is the one we most often recommend when someone is stuck between options.
Which size, and what it costs
Every design is an edition of 100. When an edition reaches 100, that design retires for good. Made to order. Delivers within 10–14 business days. Free US shipping and free 30-day returns.
- 26″ / 66cm—$100. The everyday size. Knots at the neck, ties to a bag handle, sits under a collar. Start here: American Folk Art, Blush or Le Chat Zohan.
- 36″ / 91.5cm—$160. The one we recommend most, and the size that actually works as a head wrap. Try Manhattan Towers, Lilac or American Folk Art, Marigold.
- 50″ / 127cm—$220. Shoulder wrap, full headscarf, or framed on a wall. See Statue of Liberty, Mosaic or David Michelangelo.
